A state legislator is proposing that a new group of people get the legal authority to conduct civil marriage ceremonies in Ohio: himself and his 131 fellow state legislators. State Representative Tom Letson is the author of the proposal, and he talked about it with statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen. |

| Right now, only probate, county and municipal court judges and the superintendent of the state school for the deaf can perform civil marriages in Ohio. The idea is currently getting committee hearings in the legislature. The only state that allows legislators to perform marriages is California. |
