More than 165,000 petition signatures have been delivered to Gov. John Kasich, urging him to pardon Kelley Williams-Bolar. She’s the Akron mom who was convicted of two felonies for falsifying documents so her children could go to what she considered a better public school district. Iris Roley with a group called “A Color of Change” says Williams-Bolar’s situation is not unique so she should not be penalized so harshly.
Others who are backing the pardon effort say they’ve also found ways to put their kids in a better suburban school district where they can’t afford to live. Gov. Kasich says he’s been looking into the case of Williams-Bolar and says he believes, on the surface, that the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. If the conviction against Williams-Bolar stands, she will not be able to keep her job as an aide in a school. |
