An investigative report on the scandal known as “Coingate” will be coming after all. Previously, Inspector General Randy Meyer said he would not issue a report on that because he and his employees were not around when the issue was investigated several years ago. Former Inspector General Tom Charles, who now heads the Ohio Department of Public Safety, was in charge when investigations were ongoing into controversial rare coin funds and the people who were associated with them. But in an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles, Carl Enslen, a deputy Inpsector General, says a report will be issued after all. |

| The Coingate scandal ended up with 19 people being convicted of some criminal charges. The Toledo coin dealer who managed the funds was sentenced to 18 years in prison. The scandal tarnished the reputation of Former Governor Bob Taft who pleaded no contest to an ethics violation. Democrats have been pushing for the report because they believe more Republicans could be involved in some way. There’s no word on whether the report will come before this November’s election. |
