Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the state’s Bureau of Workers' Comp program. But a critic says the BWC has an outstanding bill that remains unpaid. And more on how Ohio's poorest people are surviving the rising costs of a basic existence.

Job Losses and the 'Do Not Call' List.
By Bill Cohen - September 8, 2003
Consumers have put more than 40 million telephone numbers onto the new “do-not-call” list the federal government is setting up. Starting October 1, telemarketers are supposed to check the list and not call any of the numbers on it. Ohio legislators are considering having the Buckeye State set up its own do-not-call list to augment the national list. Critics of both projects are warning the new limits will force telemarketers to layoff millions of workers across the nation, and thousands here in Ohio. Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen reports.
