The national average price for gasoline is once again at an all-time high,
and that apparently means more Ohioans are filling up their tanks and driving
off without paying. State Senator Randy Gardner is proposing a new law that with
a stiffer punishment for gasoline thieves. He talked about his plan with statehouse
correspondent Bill Cohen. |

| Senator Gardner's proposal to crackdown on motorists who steal gasoline is a long way from becoming law. It's just been introduced in the legislature and still has to pass both the Senate and the House. Gardner thinks today's high gas prices are fueling the thefts. The price of regular gasoline has gone up for the past 6 weeks. The total increase during that time amounts to 30 cents a gallon. Pump prices in the midwest are now the highest in the nation. |
