Amber Alert committee meets again.

Law enforcement, broadcasters and others involved with getting the state’s Amber Alert system running smoothly met again today in Columbus. Committee chairman Mark Patchen says it’s the first time the group has sat down together since running a statewide test in May.

The state has never issued an official statewide alert, but three times in the last few weeks, there were cases that may have qualified for a statewide alert. Some critics have blasted the Amber Alert program, saying the criteria that must be met before an alert is launched are too strict. But advocates say there are other programs that can be launched by local police departments to try to find lost, runaway or otherwise missing children as quickly as possible.
