Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the state’s Bureau of Workers' Comp program. But a critic says the BWC has an outstanding bill that remains unpaid. And more on how Ohio's poorest people are surviving the rising costs of a basic existence.

"Drugged driving" gets legal standard in Ohio Senate.
By Jo Ingles - February 16, 2005
The Ohio Senate has given its approval to legislation that would set standards for what constitutes driving under the influence of drugs. The bill’s sponsor, Republican Senator Steve Austria, says the problem is that police officers around the state find it’s difficult to prosecute someone believe to be driving under the influence of illegal drugs like they would someone who is driving drunk. The legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio fears this legislation will single out recreational drug users who are not posing a danger behind the wheel. Jeff Gamso says the difference is the way the human body processes drugs versus alcohol. But the majority of lawmakers in the Ohio Senate who passed this legislation don’t buy that argument. The proposal now goes to the House.
