Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Ex-lawmaker pushes ahead with constitutional amendment, even as education groups reject it.
By Karen Kasler - May 18, 2005
A former state lawmaker from the Akron area is gathering signatures for a constitutional amendment on school funding. Bryan Flannery came to the Statehouse Wednesday to kick off his petition drive, which he says has been underway for a while.
Nine major education groups, including Ohio's two teachers' unions, have come out against his plan, saying it's not the fix that the state's school funding system needs. If he gathers the 300-thousand signatures he needs, Flannery's proposal could be one of as many as eight amendments on the ballot this fall.
