Ohio Governor Bob Taft says he hasn’t been contacted by the state’s inspector general in recent days about giving testimony to a panel looking into additional alleged ethics violations. Taft, who pleaded no contest to four misdemeanors last month for failing to disclose golf outings and gifts, has recently said he’s discovered eight more incidences that should have been reported. But Taft won’t face additional charges as part of the earlier court agreement. The criminal task force looking into alleged wrongdoing at the State’s Bureau of Worker’s Compensation wants to interview Taft about these most recent revelations. But in a short, terse statement, Taft says he personally doesn’t know about that request. A spokeswoman for Ohio Citizen Action, Catherine Turcer, finds Taft’s recent statements incredulous. Turcer says it’s time for Taft to resign or for state lawmakers to remove him from office. Ohio’s legislative leaders say they do not believe it would be proper to remove Taft from office at this time. |
