One in six Ohio children is either hungry or at risk of hunger, and the numbers have been growing in the last three years. But there is some good news in the annual report from the Children's Hunger Alliance. Patricia Eshman says more eligible kids are getting free lunches, but aren't taking advantage of another program. In his State of the State speech last week, Governor Taft proposed increased the school breakfast and lunch programs by 120-thousand kids. The Children's Hunger Alliance is also pushing for an increase in the number of low-income working families who receive food stamps, and more flexible rules on those benefits. |
