Ohio lawmakers are considering a bill that would make changes in the way the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation operates. One Democratic representative is urging them to call in the new director of that agency to answer questions before passing that bill. Dan Stewart (D-Columbus) says he has too many questions about the losses the agency has sustained during the past few years from questionable investments.
A spokesman for the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation says if lawmakers want the head of that agency to testify, he will. But Jeremy Jackson says BWC chief William Mabe has already been talking to lawmakers about the need for this legislation.
An attorney who represents injured workers is telling the state that this legislation would hurt Ohioans. Steve Mindzak says if lawmakers pass it in its current form, he believes the issue will ultimately be brought before Ohio voters to decide. |
