ODOT is known as the agency that rolls out the dreaded orange barrels each year. But the transportation department is also trying to make driving a little less stressful in Ohio’s biggest cities. The state is expanding its “intelligent transportation system” in Columbus, after setting it up in Cincinnati a few years ago. Todd Sloan is a spokesman for ODOT, and says the $8 million expansion of the ITS brings a total of 15 message boards to life around Columbus. Sloan says Cleveland’s ITS will be under construction in the summer of 2007, and Akron's is planned for the end of 2008. Construction in Dayton and Toledo is possible in 2011. |
