Sixteen-year-old drivers in Ohio will no longer be allowed to legally have a bunch of teenage passengers. Governor Bob Taft has signed a new law that says the youngest motorists may only have one passenger younger than age 21. The main exception -- fellow family members. Highway safety experts say the new limit will cut down on distractions for the teen drivers. Brian Newbacher speaks for the Ohio Motorists Association. He says too often, teen passengers egg on teen drivers to speed, OR, just the opposite - the teen drivers try to impress their passengers by taking chances.
The new law that governor Taft has signed also adds extra night-time hours, when the youngest teen drivers are not allowed to drive at all. The expanded window will become 12-midnight to 6 a.m. |
