Some residents of Nelsonville were allowed to return to their homes yesterday after an explosion late Saturday. Authorities say gas that leaked from an overturned vehicle sparked an explosion in the storm sewer system, damaging five homes. It's unclear what ignited the gas, Authorities say they evacuated about fifty homes, and about twnety people spent the night at an emergency shelter set up at nearby Hocking College. Nelsonville Fire Department spokesman Dan Pfeiffer says all but one family were allowed back to their homes.
Pfeiffer says crews are focusing on determining the extent of damage done to the sewer system. |
