Kids Honor Legacy Of Martin Luther King Jr. In Statewide Oratory Contest

Jan 18, 2016

Each year, the state of Ohio honors the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an oratory contest for kids around the state. And just before the day named for him, the winners come to a downtown Columbus church to perform their essays.

Here's some of what that ceremony sounded like, featuring excerpts from the winning essays. This year’s state MLK awards winners are 8-year-old third grader Ezell Matchett of Lima, 11-year-old sixth grader Marlin Yarborough of Groveport, 14-year-old eighth grader Bre’Anna Walker of Columbus and 16-year-old high school junior Holli Wartham of Lima.
