Mandel Says He'll Try Trump Tactics If He Gets Rematch Of '12 Race Against U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown

City Club of Cleveland
Treasurer Josh Mandel and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown squared off in a debate before the City Club of Cleveland in 2012.

Treasurer Josh Mandel has announced he wants a rematch against Democratic US Sen. Sherrod Brown in 2018 – though Mandel may have to survive a Republican primary this time around. And he plans to take a page from the President-elect’s playbook.

Josh Mandel and Sherrod Brown two ran against each other in 2012, and Brown beat Mandel by six points. Mandel says he thinks now is his time. “When I ran against Sherrod Brown four years ago, it ended up being the closest US Senate race in the past 40 years in the state of Ohio. And while we came up short, I’m confident this next time around, we’re going to beat him,” Mandel said.

Mandeltweeted out his announcement along with a two-minute video in which he talks about a rigged system in Washington, term limits, securing the borders and halting sanctuary cities, and fighting radical Islam – things Donald Trump won Ohio with and are likely to appeal to those who voted for him.
