Gov. John Kasich is preparing to offer a new version of a plan he vetoed that would have allowed factories in the state to draw up to 5 million gallons of water daily from Lake Erie. The sponsor of the original bill says Kasich’s proposal cuts in half the amount of water businesses would be allowed to take from the lake without a permit. But the governor implies it may be a while before it’s ready to go. |

| When Gov. Kasich vetoed the previous bill in July, he said it lacked clear standards for conservation and withdrawals. Environmentalists and some moderate Republicans, including former Gov. Bob Taft, hailed his rejection of the law, which they thought would endanger the lake. |
